An defence minister has revealed that the Ministry of Defence is currently investigating the potential threats associated with Chinese cars, and personnel have been told to refrain from discussing secret matters in all cars.
Safety Advice for MoD Staff
In a recently aired interview on LBC, Luke Pollard addressed claims that Ministry of Defence staff have been instructed not to discuss secret material while travelling in Chinese cars.
The minister stated that the MoD is “examining” cars from China within its fleets, however emphasised that safety is a issue in all modern vehicles.
Our department has a fleet of tens of thousands of vehicles in the Ministry of Defence and those vehicles account for a tiny fraction.
But whether you’re traveling in a Chinese car or a non-Chinese car, what we’ve asked our staff is to avoid connecting Ministry of Defence technology into their vehicle, not to have discussions at a secret level in any vehicle, due to the increasing threats of surveillance that exist in all automobile, to only have those confidential talks in protected areas. This is a prudent and sensible thing for everyone concerned about security.
After it was put to him that it would be wise for the ministry to cease using every cars from China, the minister responded: That is exactly what we’re investigating at the present time.”
